Hello, my name is Patty McKinley and I am an amateur genealogist and family historian dedicated to uncovering the lives behind the names in our family tree.
For me, genealogy has never been just about collecting dates or filling out charts. It is about the “whispers” left behind—the stories of survival, migration, and identity that shaped the McKinley-Odom lineages and their allied families. My work focuses on the deep roots of these names, from the ancient clans of Scotland and Ireland to the pioneers who settled in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio.
My Approach to History
I believe that a family tree is only as strong as its roots. To ensure that our history stands the test of time, I follow a strict research protocol:
- Genealogical Accuracy: I rely on primary documents, land records, and DNA analysis to verify every connection.
- Open Collaboration: I host my formal research on WikiTree to maintain a living, transparent record for all researchers.
- Contextual Storytelling: I look beyond the records to understand the why—the wars, weather patterns like the Great Frost, and social shifts that forced our ancestors to move across oceans and frontiers.
Why This Project Matters
This site is a digital home for the McKinley-Odom Roots & Allied Families project. I created this space to share my findings and, more importantly, to find the “missing pieces” that only a shared memory can provide.
I am always looking for “new” cousins. Whether you have a stray photograph, a passed-down story, or a DNA match that links us together, I invite you to join me in documenting our collective legacy.
